#TheFrontStepsProject, a “coffee moment” idea between Boston photographer Cara Soulia and her friend Kristen Collins, kicked off in Needham, MA on March 17, 2020. Their goal was to highlight the faces of their community during a time when they might not see them in passing at the grocery store, coffee shop, on the train or at the gym.
Within 24 hours, over 100 Needham residents asked to participate. Within 48 hours, the number tripled, and kept climbing. Their professional photographer friends Topher Cox and Caitrin Dunphy joined, and Cara, Topher and Caitrin spent the following nine days taking images of over 500 members of the Needham community, raising more than $25,000 for the Needham Community Council.
Hundreds of photographers from around the country started their own #TheFrontStepsProject efforts, collectively raising over $500,000 for local organizations and non-profits including food pantries, hospitals, animal shelters and more.
At the urging of some friends, I've jumped into #thefrontstepsproject with my own campaign here in West Hartford to support Connecticut Foodshare ( http://www.foodshare.org). I'd be happy to take your family portrait on your front steps over the coming weeks. I've got long telephoto lenses from my sports photography, so I shoot from the street/sidewalk. Feel free to message me, send me an email (andrew@lowtidephoto.com) or text me (860-490-9132) if you're interested and I'll get you on the schedule, each shoot only takes about 5 mins! The photos are all yours and I just ask for a donation to Foodshare in return. Thanks and we'll get through this together. Be safe.
