Week 4 - Colts v. 49ers
Stratton Faxon Mighty Mite Colts 27 v Niners 25
The Stratton Faxon Colts once again overcame adversity to defeat a tough Niners team by the final score of 27-25. This was a classic gridiron battle, with both sides hitting hard, executing well and playing until the final whistle.
The Colts opened the scoring on a quick hitting bullet pass from QB Michael Mathews to tight end Spencer Witter. This pair hooked up again for a completion on the extra point attempt to give the Colts an early 8-0.
After the Niners took the lead at 13-8, the Colts hit paydirt again on a nice bootleg run by Mathews. Colts went into half-time with a 14-13 lead.
In the second half, Declan Flaherty continued to Colt offensive attack with a nice outside run to give the Colts 20 points. A tough Niners refused to give in, and as the clock ran midway through the 4th quarter the Colts found themselves behind again at 25-20. At this point in the game, with both teams playing excellent football on both sides of the ball, the Colts team refused to lose, capping off a nice drive with a John Lagoy off-tackle run to take a one point lead. Lagoy followed it up with a tough up the middle power run to make the final score 27-25.
The Colts offense once again was lead by the offensive line of Jack Moore, Peter Brown, Aidan Stabnick, Dean Edwards, Jadon Jiminez, Jack Lazor and Olivia Moran. Thomas Sullivan also filled in nicely at left guard in the second half for an injured Jadon Jiminez. Defensively, Peter Brown was a stalwart in the middle for the Colts defense. Robert Simmons made a key third down tackle late in the fourth quarter, while linebackers Flaherty, Lagoy and defensive end Spencer Witter made big tackles throughout the game.
