Week 3 - Colts v. Titans
Stratton Faxon Mighty Mite Colts 14 v Titans 14
The Stratton Faxon Mighty Mite Colts learned a great life lesson today in a hard fought battle against a very tough Titans team. In a game many will never forget, the Colts showed the character, heart and determination of champions in a game that required a champion's attitude and determination to overcome a very worthy opponent.
The Colts scored fthe game's first touchdown with a methodic opening drive. After receiving the opening kick, the Colts marched right down the field, ending the drive with a nice pass-catch-and-run executed by Colts Quarterback Michael Mathews and Tight End Spencer Witter. The Colts converted the extra point with another Mathews to Witter pass in the corner of the end zone to take an early 8-0 lead.
The Titans were a tough bunch, and by half time the Colts found themselves behind for the first time this season, facing a 14-8 deficit. The Titans started the second half right where they left off, taking the ball and methodically marching down the field, eating up the clock in the process. But these Colts would not relent, and a gutty goal line stand on 4th and goal denied the Titans offense. From here, it was all Colts the rest of the way.
The Colts started their drive at their own half yard line. With sheer gut and determination, the Colts offense marched the ball down the field. After 59 hard fought yards, John Lagoy hit pay dirt off tackle with 3:50 to go in the fourth quarter to tie the score. The Colts extra point fell short, leaving the score tied.
The Titans took the ensuing kickoff and began advancing the ball up the field. With about 1:30 left, the frenzied Colts defense once again showed its true character, forcing a Titan fumble. Colts toughguy Jack Moore recovered the fumble, and the Colts offense was back in control. The Colts again employed a ground and pound attack to take the ball down to the Titans 1 yard line. The game ended in a tie before the Colts could run one more play.
There were no outstanding players. This was a true team effort. Hats off to both the Titans and Colts in an excellent display of sportsmanship and top notch football.
