Week 7 - Raiders v. Eagles
Tanlines Raider Midgets 16 Cunningham Supply Eagle Midgets 12
The Tanlines midgets were looking to get back into the win column after two rough losses. The Eagles were looking for their first win of the season and the result was a fantastic hard hitting game with both teams playing some tough football. The Eagles won the opening toss and elected to defer, so the Raiders received the opening kickoff. It did not take long for them to find the end zone, when Jonathan Aljoe found a hole and exploded 65 yards for the first Raiders score of the day. After a penalty set back the extra point, Owen Tyler hooked up with Tommy Jamin for the two-point conversion. The Eagles fired right back with a strong drive of their own, resulting in a TD run for Ryan Bell. The extra point pass was knocked down by the Raider defense and the score was 8-6. The second quarter was a defensive slugfest with neither team yielding much ground. Going into half time the Raiders knew they had a battle on their hands if they wished to be victorious. The Eagles got the ball to start the second half and had a long drive down the length of the field. Ryan Bell got to the outside and found the end zone for the second Eagles score of the day, failing on the extra point conversion pass, but taking the lead 12-8. There was no quit in the Raider offense today, as the offensive line stepped up their play on the next Raider possession in the 4th quarter. They opened up holes for Jamin and Aljoe and the Raiders marched down the field. A passer interference penalty put the Raiders into the Eagles red zone, and from there Own Tyler found a crease in the Eagle defense, and took the ball in for a beautiful TD run. Marcus Johnson made a great catch for the two-point conversion and the Raiders took the lead 16-12. As the Eagles got the ball back on the kick off the Raider D knew they needed to step it up to preserve the win, and that is exactly what they did. They swarmed to the ball, creating a fumble that Cole Stabnick recovered to give the ball back to the Raiders. As they took a knee and watched the final seconds tick off the clock, the Raiders we happy to come out on the winning side of this toughly contested battle. Congratulations to the Eagles for playing an outstanding game.
